Ideally you want perfect weather on moving day. You can try to plan and schedule your move for the perfect day, but sometimes you can get caught in the rain. If this happens to you don't let mother nature rain on your moving day parade. Here are a few tips to make a rainy moving day a little better for you (and all other parties involved).
- The most important thing is to keep a good attitude despite the rain. A bad attitude can ruin your move even on the prettiest day of the year.
- Smiling and singing keeps my spirits up. So smile and sing and/or listen to a little music while you move.
- Try and park the moving truck closest to dry shelter as you can. Walking 5 feet in the rain beats walking 50 feet any day.
- Have mats to wipe your feet before you come in the house. Towels or some plastic sticky floor protector stuff (you can find at your local hardware store) to keep the inside floor dry and clean.
- Shrink wrap your furniture. The protective plastic wrap can keep your things very well protected when used correctly.
- Keep any slippery floors as dry as possible to prevent falls. Be especially careful when carrying larger items like dressers and sofas. And use furniture dollies (flat, four-wheel) to transport when it is possible and makes sense.
- Hire the pros. Movers are tough, so they won't cry about the rain. They will know the best spot to park the truck. Some movers will already have shrink wrap and floor protector with then, but be sure to ask so they can pick some up if they don't have any.
If you can postpone your move until later that day or another day that would be the best thing to do. But if the show must go on...Be happy, be safe and stay dry.
